Hydrolysis as a function of pH

Hydrolysis is an important reaction controlling abiotic degradation. This reaction is particularly relevant for substances with low biodegradability: it can influence the persistence of a substance in the environment.

Briefly, the substance is dissolved in water at a low concentration and at pH 4, 7 and 9. The decrease of the concentration of the substance with time is followed by any suitable analytical procedure.
